It's nice to do things differently, I like some of my 90s lo-fi, but here it just makes the music muddy and blurry. In its core it is a beautiful song with a wonderful melody, but the production value really kinda ruins it. Tom Waits - Innocent When You Dream : The higgest ranked Tom Waits song in my list is the song I had the most troubles ranking. Hilly Fields is just out there, not sounding like pretty much anything else, which would not be enough to make it great if it wasn't so dreamy, catchy and endearing. Nick Nicely - Hilly Fields / The Soft Verdict - Struggle for Pleasure : probably my 2 favorite discoveries from the poll (I might have heard Hilly Fields for the unacclaimed songs polls). What also makes this more to my taste than any Joy Division song is Bernard Sumner voice : as explained in the Pitchfork 500 book, Ian Curtis what THAT guy that you can only admire from afar, Sumner is the guy next door, the one you can identify too, singing a simple but lovely and direct love song. Anyway, that's for me the best mix of dance and pop/rock that ever existed before James Murphy hit a studio, and LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip and pretty much any band that made me dance with guitars owe this song a huge debt. Even beside that, there is an issue I also met with The Mercy Seat where 2 versions of the song are different enough to significantly change the ranking, I find the 7" version of Temptation a bit better than the 12" one so I based my vote on it (the 12" version would still be 5th in my list). New Order - Temptation : I am baffled this ends so low, I hope some voters did not base their opinion on the 87 version. What I find the most interesting here is how 3 great versions of the songs (this, Tim Buckley's original one and Tim Buckley's version in Starsailor) are so different and yet carry the same powerful mix of emotions This Mortal Coil - Song to the Siren : I thought this would be shoe-in for the top 100. Add it Up got it all, sing a long moments, crazy solos, lyrics simple and brilliant at the same time. It's not just an awkward album, it's an album about being awkward, out of phase, and Add It Up and Kiss Off, though not as catchy as Blister in the Sun, are its most perfect moment. Violent Femmes - Add It Up : Their self titled album is one of my very favorite of the 80s, an awkward anomaly when all was about jangly guitars and synths. I don't even care if the lyrics are any good, those drums hit so hard ! Run DMC - Rock Box : Epic is only the 2nd best mix of rock and rap of the 80s, this is hands down the best with the relentless beat and the effortless guitar riffs. Well, punk and metal/hard-rock got slammed even harder than I expected ! Mission of Burma - That's When I Reach for My Revolver The Gun Club - She's Like Heroin to Meġ47. Due to their well-known political differences (Joey showed sympathy for the left while Johnny was overtly conservative), Joey referred to Johnny is his song as "the KKK." So you all know, the KKK was no other than Johnny Ramone, the one that took his baby away. That's the closest answer I’ve seen thus far.Honorio wrote:Joey Ramone's girlfriend, Linda Cummings, cheated him and began a relationship with Johnny Ramone. Where does it end? Why is there so much disrespect of the Commissioners' votes? Do they not actually have to abide by what the Commission says? Is it strictly a formality that just didn’t go their way? When does “no” actually mean “no” for them? What is fueling WWTAs arrogance for them to continue to bully the Community and anyone else who stands in their way in order to get what they want? Mr. Three times the WWTA has been denied this location, yet they try again and again. The RPA (Regional Planning Agency) denied recommending the location, the Commissioners denied funding and then later denied rezoning for the necessary special permit. What is the real reason they are they so fixated on the Mahan Gap property? Despite three separate votes against this location, the WWTA shows no signs of moving along. WWTA, with the help of Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger, County Commissioner Tim Boyd, Rheubin Taylor and a few others, seem to have something up their sleeves.
